Huang Di Nei Jing (Yellow Emperor’s Internal Medicine)
This course explores the classic text and the interpretation of the fundamental theories of Traditional Chinese Medicine as presented in the classic book.
Shang Han Lun (Treatise on Febrile Diseases)
This course includes the classic theories of infectious diseases caused by EPF Wind and Cold. It includes the etiology, clinical manifestations, pulse, tongue, signs, and symptoms at different stages of each disease. This course also covers primary herbal formulas applicable to the six stages of disease.
Jin Gui Yao Lue (Synopsis of prescriptions from the Golden Chamber)
This course covers the chapters on miscellaneous diseases from the Jin Gui Yao Lue. Discussions include the theory, differential diagnosis, and treatment methods as presented in this classic. This course also presents basic herbal formulas and their application to the appropriate diseases.
Wen Bing Xue (The Etiology, Pathology, Differentiation and Treatment of Acute Epidemic Diseases)
The classical theories of infectious diseases caused by EPF heat. The etiology, clinical manifestations, pulse and tongue signs, and different stages of each syndrome along with basic herbal formulas is addressed.
An introductory course to the chemistry of proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, etc. and the metabolism mechanisms of these chemicals and substances in the body.
Immunology is the study of all aspects of the immune system including its structure and function, disorders of the immune system, blood banking, immunization and organ transplantation. The antigen-antibody and autoimmune responses are among the topics covered in this course.
LABORATORY DIAGNOSIS AND IMAGE DIAGNOSTICS
This course is designed to advance the TCM Practitioner's understanding of a wide range of laboratory tests such as blood work and various image diagnostics such as ECG’s, X-Rays and ultrasounds and the reference of normal ranges and comments in the reports.
This course covers the Western Diseases of the various body systems, such as the circulatory, nervous, digestive, metabolic, etc. It is designed so that the TCM Practitioner advances their ability to communicate effectively with their patient as well as other healthcare providers.
TCM PHARMACOLOGY AND TOXICOLOGY
This course expounds upon the practitioners previous Herbal courses and is an in-depth study of specific pharmacological effects of different categories of Chinese herbs. Toxic Chinese herbs, their absorption, distribution and metabolism of the toxins are discussed. This course also covers the signs and symptoms of herbal poisoning, antidotes and prevention. Interactions between herbal medicines, prescription drugs and supplements is also addressed in this course.
The history and development of TCM orthopedics and traumatology is introduced in this course. Various etiologies, pathogenesis and differentiation and diagnosis of musculoskeletal trauma and disease is addressed.
TCM EXTERNAL MEDICINE (INCLUDES DERMATOLOGY)
This course is an in-depth exploration of TCM treatments of external disorders of the body including but not limited to the breasts, carbuncles, genitals, urinary system tumors, cysts, carcinomas, and dermatological conditions.
TCM EENT (THE 5 SENSES)
Treatment of internal diseases of the eyes, ears, nose and throat with TCM is discussed in this course.
TCM PREVENTATIVE MEDICINE
Basic principles pertaining to a healthy lifestyle including diet, nutrition, exercise, gi gong, tai chi and relaxation are discussed in relationship to patient treatment planning. Disease prevention for specific disorders are discussed in more detail.
TCM EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT
Topics for the management of emergencies such as high fever, convulsion, sudden bleeding, etc. are discussed.
TUI NA (TCM BODYWORK)
Students will learn the history, therapeutic principles and diagnostic methods of tui na prior to learning the technique. Students will be able to apply tui na bodywork to both adults and children and know when the technique is most appropriate and effectively used in practice.
